Augmented Reality (AR) app helping patients and families plan for and adjust to in-home medical equipment.
IDHA and SIMPeds at Boston Children’s Hospital are working together to develop an AR-based app that will link patients and their families to their personal library of medical equipment, enabling active assessment of the home space prior to discharge. The app will be able to confirm equipment placement, clearance requirements, and noise levels. Our goal is to increase patients’ and families’ comfort level with new equipment, as well as to decrease the workload of hospital staff that otherwise may conduct home visits to assess the home environment.
Patients are discharged from the hospital daily with prescribed medical equipment to be introduced in the home environment. Uncertainty regarding the oftentimes large medical equipment can add unnecessary stress to an already complicated discharge plan.
