The Safety Map application suite provides a comprehensive, singular web based platform to mitigate risk and liability – while improving safety and workflow efficiency for employees within healthcare, research and construction environments.

Project Overview

Specifically the Safety Map platform provides a centralized cloud-based data repository with mobile interface for managing risks related to emergency response, federal and state compliance and  general safety & health within internal and external work environments. The platform increases the efficiency of collecting, managing and analyzing data related to environmental health and safety issues – and aims to reduce injuries among employees and patients, damage to equipment and facilities, regulatory failures and business disruptions.

  • Includes algorithms for predictive analytics and risk mitigation
  • Enables advanced user management and security features
  • Cloud computing; iPhone, iPad, and Web browser, allowing for mobile use, data entry, reporting, analytics, and peer-to-peer benchmarking

Healthcare Context

In 2011, the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) reported that employees in U.S. hospitals experience nearly double the rate of work-related injuries compared to the average for all industries. In 2012 OSHA reported that hospitals also have the highest lost-time injury rates of all industries, exceeding construction and manufacturing.  Despite this high rate and severity of employee injuries and illnesses, there is no comprehensive platform for environmental health & safety risk management in the healthcare and biomedical research industries. The EH&S platform aims to fill that gap.

Boston Children’s Hospital has teamed up with SMC Partners to release the SafetyMap platform, set to launch at Boston Children’s in May. In collaboration with BCH, SMC is now also offering SafetyMap to other hospitals. Check out the partnership announcement here.
