Aman Bhandari, PhD has extensive leadership experience in the corporate, academic and government sectors. Currently he heads up corporate data science at Vertex Pharmaceuticals.
Prior to Vertex, he was at Merck where he headed up a unit focused on data strategy, intel and corporate partnerships in the care delivery, big data and health tech space.
Prior to Merck, he worked at the White House for President Obama’s first two U.S. Chief Technology Officers (Aneesh Chopra & Todd Park) where he co-led a variety of health policy initiatives at the intersection of tech, data, and innovation in the context of the Affordable Care and HITECH Acts. He also played a key role in implementing the President’s Open Data and Open Government initiatives. His work in healthcare was the blueprint for efforts across sectors and programs like the Presidential Innovation Fellows. He also led or made key contributions to launching: Health Data Palooza, Blue Button, Text4Baby, ONC Investing in Innovations, and the HHS Entrepreneur in Residence program. Aman built diverse teams and recruited entrepreneurs into government, serving as an ambassador to Silicon Valley. He created several innovative public private partnerships such as bringing the hackathon model to healthcare in partnership with Health2.0.
Previously, Aman has worked in a variety of roles from clinical trials research to conducting a case study of one of the only non-profit medical device facilities in the world. In 2006, he founded one of the only independent global health + technology blogs which has been linked to or cited by various sites including World Changing, Acumen Fund, the New York Times, BoingBoing, and Next Billion.
Aman has been a judge or advisor to initiatives from the World Bank, USAID, Harvard, Cornell, Ashoka Foundation, Knight News Foundation and others. He has been a frequent speaker and has given keynote talks a wide ranging from the first Twilio DevCon to the State Department global innovation leaders meeting. He is the creator of FastForwardHealth, a health innovation film festival.
