Twitter Data Stream is a database that stores and geolocates Twitter data.

Project Overview

The IDHA research team maintains a Twitter Data Stream via an API database that stores and geolocates longitudinal Twitter data from 2014 to present. The Twitter Data Stream is used for grant-funded research projects and publications for analysis of social media content for public health issues such as chronic disease, disease detection, and more.

The data stream is maintained by the research team data scientists at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Healthcare Context

Twitter data can be a treasure-trove for epidemiologists as many Twitter users often speak about their health issues on the platform. While there are existing reports from health agencies regarding significant public health issues, they can often lag behind whereas Twitter data offers the opportunity to track information in real-time.
