MedFinder is a free, online service that makes it easier for providers and the public to search for nearby locations that offer the medication they need.

Project Overview

MedFinder is a free, online service for providers and patients to search for nearby locations of pharmacies and/or clinics that offer their estimated ability to fill medications by reporting their supply quantities daily. MedFinder partners with a combination of government agencies, public health officials, pharmacies and clinics to provide up-to-date and accurate information about the availability of medication.

MedFinder’s current focus is on influenza antiviral medications, prescription medicines that fight the influenza virus.

MedFinder was created by the HealthMap team at Boston Children’s Hospital. MedFinder is a sister tool of Vaccine Finder.

Healthcare Context

Currently there is no near real-time method for patients and providers to know which pharmacies, clinics, or other healthcare facilities have medical countermeasures (MCM) during an influenza season. This poses difficulty in knowing where to go to access these critical products especially during a public health response. During an influenza pandemic, timely information on where to go to access influenza to antiviral drugs will be critical in order for:

  • Providers to know where to send prescriptions
  • Patients to know where they can fill prescriptions
  • Public health decision makers to know when additional antiviral supplies may be needed
