PREDICT enables the global surveillance of pathogens to detect and discover viruses that have the potential to become pandemics.

Project Overview

The PREDICT project features a platform that detects and discovers pathogens with pandemic potential that can move from animal hosts to humans.  The open access platform allows users to visualize PREDICT data along with disease events worldwide from 2009 to present. PREDICT has been granted an extension in order to assist in the response efforts to the COVID-19 pandemic, offering technical and logistical support.

The project was developed by the HealthMap team of Boston Children’s as part of USAID’s Emerging Pandemic Threats (EPT) program and is led by the UC Davis One Health Institute.

Healthcare Context

Response resources are important assets to leverage to assist in the detection of global pandemics, such as COVID-19 and other emerging biological threats. Public health officials can utilize this data to be proactive in preventing potential outbreaks rather than being reactive.
